Classic Concert Photos of the 70's

Here is the latest in Classic Concert Photo updates.

Updates March 24, 2009

There are many more to come so stay tune.  (Classic Concerts)

Billy Joel: These are from the University of Rochester, NY on 11-7-76 and the Buffalo Auditorium on 11-29-77.  Both great concerts before he was impossible to get tickets for.  In Buffalo I was allowed to stay in front of the stage during the concert even after security tried to move us.  Someone in the front row waved the security off, there we sat on the floor in front of the stage.  A great evening.

Carly Simon:
I was able to see Carly three times even though she hated to perfore live due to a reported sever case of stage fright.  These concerts were from Gaelic Park in the Bronx on 7-7-71.  She performed as special guest to Cat Stevens.  Then on 10-9-71 she was at Iona College, in New Rochelle, NY playing with Livingston Taylor.  Brother of James Taylor.  Then on 12-30-71 at the Westchester County Center.  Fourth row seats at a cost of $5.50.

Cat Stevens: Only saw Cat Stevens once.  7-7-71.  Another great concert at Gaelic Park.  Under the warn NYC sky.  What a line up.  Same concert that had Carly Simon, Kate Taylor, Johnathan Edwards, Tim Harden and Odetta.  All for $5.00.

Gaelic Park: These are photos of Gaelic Park.  Concerts were run by Manhattan College and others.  A socker field in the Bronx.  An oasis for great music.

James Gang: Sans Joe Walsh.  These are from Central Park in NYC at the Schaefer Music Festival.  8-6-73.  Another great place for music and how could you beet the price.  $2.00.

Hot Tuna:  I think I saw them at least one more time, but time will tell if I have other photos that may prove it one way or another.  These photos are from the Capital Theater in NJ on 10-13-72, the Academy of Music in NYC on 10-27-72, the midnight show, and Stonybrook on Long Island on 3-17-73.  During this time they were playing with Pappa John Creach.

Jonathan Edwards: I have other photos of Johnathan, but they are not ready yet.  When they are, I will update you.  These are from Gaelic Park in the Bronx, same show as Cat Stevens and Carly Simon.  7-7-71.

Kate Taylor: Again the same concert, a great performance by Kate.  This was again at Gaelic Park and was on 7-7-71.

Mountain: At Gaelic Park in the Bronx on 7-23-71.  They were the featured artist and put on a great show.  Almost too good.  They came on to do their encore, Corky Lang picked up the cowbell to start off Mississippi Queen, when the power went out.  A very strict curfew was in place and the authorities pulled the plug.  No more show, and did not to hear Mississippi Queen.  It took almost 35 years to the day to see Mountain again during the Hippy Fest tour (2006) to hear them play Mississippi Queen, but without Felix Pappalardi.

Yes: I have more somewhere of Yes, I think, but these are from 7-23-71 at Gaelic Park.  They played third on the bill to Humble Pie  and Mountain.  Also are photos from Springfield, MA, on 8-10-77.  This was a general admission concert they played with Donovan.  It was a lot of pushing and shoving to get in and almost a reenactment of the devastating Who concert in Cleveland.  Then you get to stand inside a large gym for the concert.  Not the best place, but how can you not enjoy a concert by Yes.  I also saw them in Madison Square Garden in ’77 and Canandaiqua Lake in ’94.  The ’94 concert is the new era of concerts where cameras are not allowed and can be confiscated.  All of our lose.
